First came the graphic novel, then the vivid memoir. At 2 p.m. today in the Microsoft Auditorium of the Central Branch of the Seattle Public Library, an acclaimed Parisian artist with the pen name of David B. discusses his graphic memoir "Epileptic" (Pantheon), his floor of ontogenesis up with an epileptic brother.
"Epileptic," which Time Magazine described as a "perfect memoir," is said to have inspired "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi, a memoir of growing up in Iran that was released as a film in 2007, and which the library chose as its "Seattle Reads" pick in 2006.
"Epileptic" won numerous awards in Europe. David B. (real name: Pierre-Franois Beauchard) will be joined by Kim Thompson, translator of "Epileptic" and co-owner of Seattle-based Fantagraphics Books. The program is presented in cooperation with Alliance Franaise de Seattle and Fantagraphics Books. More information: 206-386-4636 or www.spl.org.
