Joe Chester - The Tiny Pieces Left Behind

Recorded over the space of three years in studios both in Ireland and France, Joe Chester's second album, 'The Tiny Pieces Left Behind', has a disjointed feel to it, which despite occasional flashes of brilliance has a tendency to get lost in too many instruments and not enough substance.
Where as Chester's debut, the much acclaimed 'A Murder of Crows' was a mainly acoustic affair, full of strong songs and catchy melodies, 'The Tiny Pieces Left Behind' sees him opt for a much fuller sound. This should work well, as Chester has earned his stripes for over the last 10 years in guitar-based bands such as Sunbear and Tenspeedracer. However, at times the singer-songwriter's vocals struggle to compete with the richer sound.
The album opens strongly with both 'Something is Better (Than Nothing At All)' and 'The Right Place' offering decent harmonies and the instruments afforded to them are up to the task of strong, catchy melodies.
The best find on the album has to be 'To Hold onto Melting Love', a wispy, thoughtful tune, double-tracked vocally and offering contributos Ann Scott and Gemma Hayes the proper platform to showcase their considerable talents. The melody soars and dips, eventually ending up with a traditional air. Beautiful.
However, too many times on the album the songs just fade into obscurity, ok for a first or second listen, but offering nothing to listeners to keep the coming back. 'Why Things Break' is a forgettable track, with the repetitive nature of verse and chorus not helped out by Chester's vocals.
There is equally nothing memorable about 'Alarms', a long drawn-out affair, devoid of any melody, Chester's voice again competing unfavourably with the music. Ditto 'Long Distance Friend'.
With only a handful of decent tracks and one stand-out song, the album has to be considered a let-down following the considerable beauty and success of his debut. Unfortunately, it's all too familiar 'difficult second album' territory for the singer-songwriter.

Ashley Tisdale Positively Healthy

A rumor about Ashley Tisdale's health spread faster then reports of her new nose. Multiple Internet sites said the "High School Musical" star contracted a disease when she had her nose job last year, prompting loyal Ashley fans to speak out on youtube, but it is completely false (via People).

There was no need to panic. The tween musical franchise will continue and Ashley is in perfectly good health. Her rep denounced the rumors calling them "completely untrue".

Sharon Osbourne: You Can X This

Everyone knows you don't f with Sharon Osbourne. After 4-years judging the hit British show, the X-Factor, Ozzy's misuses told the show to take their contract offer and shove it. The exact words Sharon used are unclear, but if her reality show days are any indication, it had to be a colorful selection of words.

Sharon's peeps insist she was just tired of doing the show after 4-years and wanted to move on, but the London rumor mill says she was jealous of her much younger and perky co-host, Danni Minogue, and her constant flirting with Simon Cowell. Sharon was sick of competing for attention and when the show didn't meet her financial demands for next season, she walked, according to the Daily Mail.

No need to worry. There is no bad blood between Sharon and Simon. She'll still be a judge on "America's Got Talent" this summer.

Miley Wannabe Won't Put Out

15-year-old Miley Cyrus wannabe says she is saving herself for marriage (via Just Jared). The rising Disney star is breathing down the scandal plagued Hannah Montana's back and appealing to tweens and their homely moms across the country.

Selena says she told her Dad she wanted a promise ring and he got it blessed at the church so she can set an example for other kids. That's what Britney Spears said. It's just a matter of time before Selena and Miley really go wild.

Party Favors: Clinton says: Bye, Bye, Bye ... Vin Diesel Casted as Baby Daddy

It's finally over. Hillary Clinton made a good attempt to become the first woman president, but she hit a ceiling. After a never-ending political season, Clinton will concede to Barack Obama this afternoon and suspend her campaign in the same venue she danced the night away with Hubby Bill when he won the White House (via NY Daily News). ...Not only did Vin Diesel knock up his girlfriend, he somehow managed to become a father without anyone in LaLa land even knowing. In April, the action hero actor premiered his latest project, a little girl according to Us.

Paltrow Wants More Children

Gwyneth Paltrow wants a third child with rocker husband Chris Martin, to honour her late father Bruce Paltrow. The actress claims the director - who died of cancer in 2002 - regretted only having two children; Paltrow and her brother Jake. She tells the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, "I may force myself to do it one more time because the result is so worth it. And also my (late) dad said to me that his only regret in life was that he had only two children and he didn't have more." Paltrow and Martin have also considered adopting. The actress adds, "I do feel we're so fortunate, and we kind of owe it to humanity. We have a lot of love to give and a lot of resources." Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Martin are parents to four year old Apple; and Moses, one.
