Singer/songwriter/guitarist Marc Bolan was one of the major glam rock music figures of the early '70s, particularly in England. After evacuant his debut solo individual, "The Wizard," and its follow-ups, "The Third Degree" and "Hipster Gumbo," on Decca Records in the U.K. in 1965-1966, he coupled the band John's Children in 1967. The same yr, he and percussionist Steve Peregine Took formed Tyrannosaurus Rex, an acoustic pair. They made tierce albums, My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair merely Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows (1968), Prophets, Seers and Sages, the Angels of the Ages (1968), and Unicorn (1969), so split, with Bolan retaining the band predict and teaming up with Mickey Finn on the galvanizing Beard of Stars (1970).

By the goal of 1970, with the call abbreviated to T. Rex, Bolan and Finn scored a U.K. reach with "Taunt a White Swan," the low gear of x straight Top Ten hits, and the album T. Rex. Adding bass player Steve Curry and drummer Bill Fifield, T. Rex expanded into a fully fledged rock-and-roll & roll banding, and scored a phone number one stumble with "Hot Love" and another with "Acquire It On." (Under the title "Have it away a Gong (Convey It On)," the song became T. Rex's only substantial U.S. reach, making the Top Ten in 1972.) This was followed by the landmark record album Electric Warrior (1971), which topped the U.K. charts and included the single "Jeepster." Then came "Telegram Sam," T. Rex's third base U.K. act one. "Metallic element Guru" became T. Rex's fourth number one in May 1972. (During this period, with T.Rextasy hit Britain, numerous reissues also charted.) The future unexampled T. Rex album, The Slider, became a Top Ten reach in July 1972. T. Rex's seventh straight Top Ten unmarried, "Children of the Revolution," peaked in the charts in September, followed by "Solid Gold Easy Action" in December. In March 1973 came "Twentieth Century Boy," the one-ninth T. Rex Top Ten unmarried, and the Top Ten album Tanx. In June, "The Groover" became the band's tenth and final Top Ten unmarried.

In August, Bolan tried the ethel Waters for victimisation his have name on records, issue the non-charting "Pirate flag" single credited to Marc Bolan with Big Carrot, merely so he retreated to the T. Rex rubric, though the original group was fragmenting. Bolan and T. Rex's commercial and decisive fortunes declined afterwards, as they released Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow (1974), Bolan's Zip Gun (1975), Futuristic Dragon (1976), and Yawl in the Underworld (1977). Bolan died in an car accident in 1977, and his work has been reissued oft in the U.K.

Joe Chester - The Tiny Pieces Left Behind

Recorded over the space of three years in studios both in Ireland and France, Joe Chester's second album, 'The Tiny Pieces Left Behind', has a disjointed feel to it, which despite occasional flashes of brilliance has a tendency to get lost in too many instruments and not enough substance.
Where as Chester's debut, the much acclaimed 'A Murder of Crows' was a mainly acoustic affair, full of strong songs and catchy melodies, 'The Tiny Pieces Left Behind' sees him opt for a much fuller sound. This should work well, as Chester has earned his stripes for over the last 10 years in guitar-based bands such as Sunbear and Tenspeedracer. However, at times the singer-songwriter's vocals struggle to compete with the richer sound.
The album opens strongly with both 'Something is Better (Than Nothing At All)' and 'The Right Place' offering decent harmonies and the instruments afforded to them are up to the task of strong, catchy melodies.
The best find on the album has to be 'To Hold onto Melting Love', a wispy, thoughtful tune, double-tracked vocally and offering contributos Ann Scott and Gemma Hayes the proper platform to showcase their considerable talents. The melody soars and dips, eventually ending up with a traditional air. Beautiful.
However, too many times on the album the songs just fade into obscurity, ok for a first or second listen, but offering nothing to listeners to keep the coming back. 'Why Things Break' is a forgettable track, with the repetitive nature of verse and chorus not helped out by Chester's vocals.
There is equally nothing memorable about 'Alarms', a long drawn-out affair, devoid of any melody, Chester's voice again competing unfavourably with the music. Ditto 'Long Distance Friend'.
With only a handful of decent tracks and one stand-out song, the album has to be considered a let-down following the considerable beauty and success of his debut. Unfortunately, it's all too familiar 'difficult second album' territory for the singer-songwriter.

Sharon Osbourne: You Can X This

Everyone knows you don't f with Sharon Osbourne. After 4-years judging the hit British show, the X-Factor, Ozzy's misuses told the show to take their contract offer and shove it. The exact words Sharon used are unclear, but if her reality show days are any indication, it had to be a colorful selection of words.

Sharon's peeps insist she was just tired of doing the show after 4-years and wanted to move on, but the London rumor mill says she was jealous of her much younger and perky co-host, Danni Minogue, and her constant flirting with Simon Cowell. Sharon was sick of competing for attention and when the show didn't meet her financial demands for next season, she walked, according to the Daily Mail.

No need to worry. There is no bad blood between Sharon and Simon. She'll still be a judge on "America's Got Talent" this summer.
